Finesse swimbait Li'L TUFFY for Big Smallmouth Bass
Here on Kentucky Lake the smallmouth bass has been on fire of late. The water is clearing up more than ever and I think the smallmouth are loving that and flourishing. With that clear water we have found that we need smaller baits and line to catch them. The Li'L TUFFY Swimbait is the perfect finesse swimbait for big smallmouth.
I have started using light line 5lb test and light rod to wack the smallies here and man is it fun. The Li'L TUFFY Swimbait isn't just small like the minnows that the smallmouth are eating but it is one TUF bait. With the strip of mylar tubing inside the bait, that prevents the bait from tearing, I can fish the li'L TUFFY all day with numerous catches. It seems the more beat up the bait gets the more the smallmouth like it.
With spinning tackle or my bait finesse system I have just started using, I can cast a 1/16th oz jighead a great distance which is important when fishing clear water. A steady retrieve seems to be the best but sometimes they want a little pause or twitch or the rod tip to entice a strike. As fall arrives the smallies will move up on the shoreline and sandbars to ambush bait and the Li'L TUFFY Swimbait is the perfect bait to match the hatch.
